South African women's team captain Marsha Marescia is a spirited midfielder who has proven a stand-out player for her country since debuting as an 18-year-old.

Born in Durban, she has studied social sciences at the University of Johannesburg and plays domestic for Southern Gauteng in South Africa.

Marescia is known to her teammates as either 'Marsh' or 'Nator' and says her childhood idols were 400m star Michael Johnson and Gillian Montague, who was the first coloured player to represent South Africa in the post-apartheid era.

Marescia's hobbies are reading, beading, baking and just having fun with mates.
