England shine in Changzhou gloom
13 Apr 2006 14:49

Belgium grabbed a last second equalizer against Pakistan, but England stole the show on day two of the BDO Hockey World Cup Qualifiers in China, streaking to their second comfortable victory in two days.

The win leaves England clear on top of Pool A with six points, while Pakistan and Belgium sit two points back on four points each respectively.

For the second straight day Changzhou produced bitterly cold and gloomy conditions, perhaps just the ingredient for the English to play well who liken the conditions to what they play in at home.

The other good story to come out of day two was the success of the Irish, who bounced back gallantly after a heavy defeat on day one to upset Canada 2-1.

Pakistan, who came into the tournament as strong favourites to progress to their eleventh straight World Cup, are yet to hit their straps in this event and will need to lift their games when Pool A competition resumes on Saturday.
